Manipulators: Key Design Features PDF Print E-mail

Clansman Manipulator.gifClansman's design incorporates many features which improve the performance, value and above all reliability of our machines relative to competitor machines.

Key Design Features:

  • Master arm and forcefeedback.
  • Roller bearings.
  • Avoidance of structural failures.
  • Protected structure.
  • Accessible seals.
  • Selective force limitation.
  • Acceleration control.

Master Arm and forcefeedback

Clansman Dynamics has developed and patented a Master Arm and Forcefeedback system which solves well known problems that have existed with competitor's machines since they were first developed 25 years ago.

Roller bearings

Clansman Dynamics uses large spherical steel roller bearings wherever possible throughout its range. These provide better performance and have a longer lifetime than other types of bearings (used by competitors).

Avoiding fatigue failures

Telemanipulators on a tough duty in a forge or foundry may be doing a cycle every 6 seconds and for 24 hours per day. Clansman Dynamics has produced a design which allows for a cycle every 6 seconds and a ten year life.

Protecting the structure

Clansman engineers have developed a control system that manages the acceleration of a manipulator to protect it from the stresses of this type of work - resulting in reduced wear and maintenance costs.

Accessible seals

Clansman manipulators have 360° roll axis seals in an accessible seal housing for rapid maintenance. Competitor machines locate seals deep inside the structure, requiring time-consuming and costly operations every time maintenance is required.

Selective Force Limitation

Manipulators generate tremendous forces in operation. Clansman has designed a system to minimize the unnecessary use of such force by manipulators, reducing wear on the machine.
